Dallas Strait

Dallas Strait, 86, Greencastle, died Friday, September 7, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Born September 26, 1931 in Harrisonville, he was the 13th child of the late Thurman and Annie (Pyne) Strait.

He was an entrepreneur at heart. He was involved with numerous ventures, with his most notable being Strait Steel Inc. in Greencastle, where he was the founder, past president, and CEO. He was very proud of his family for their work in supporting and continuing the family business. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for bravery. He was always a very hardworking man, but always found time for his family and friends.

He is survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 67 years; two sons: Greg and wife Sue; Daniel and wife Aprile Sue; two daughters: Debra Crouse and husband Larry; Susan Tornetta and husband Charles; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Seiders, Chambersburg; and one brother, Paul of Johnstown.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, at Ebenezer United Brethren Church, Greencastle. Pastor David Grove officiatied. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

Arrangements were entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg.
