Walk, Run, Play The alumni community building gym is open for free from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If school closes because of the weather, walking will be cancelled. Walking will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with the last day to be determined when the weather gets better. Park in the parking lot along side of the building and sign in. CF Hall Walking Hall walking will run until March 31 at Central Fulton High School on Tuesday and Thursday evenings only from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. For updates please check the Web site at www.cfsd.info.

Indoor Swimming Party Fulton County Family Partnership and Fulton Fatherhood invite all to a fun family night of indoor swimming at James Buchanan High School January 29. Shooting Match Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a 410 gauge shooting match Saturday, January 16, at 1 p.m. Prizes awarded and shells provided.

Open Stage Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold an open stage Saturday, January 23, at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Free admission.

Sweetheart Ball Beta Sigma Phi will host its 32nd annual Sweetheart Ball at McConnellsburg American Legion February 6. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner, including gourmet desserts, will be served at 6:30 p.m. There will be a silent auction and live auction followed by dancing with music provided by Shawn Emler, DJ, of Northeast Entertainment. Free Movie A free movie, “Hotel Tanselvania 2,” rated PG, will be shown at Fulton County Library’s community room Friday, January 15, at 6:10 pm.


Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays) in the Pearl Room, second floor of Fulton County Medical Center, and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of McConnellsburg Alumni Building, located at 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings that anyone can attend.

Mental Health Assistance Are you concerned if you or someone you know is living with mental health or substance abuse problems? If you have insurance call the number on the back of the insurance card first. Narcotics Anonymous Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meets three times per week in McConnellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Membership is open to all drug addicts, regardless of the particular drug or combination of drugs used including alcohol. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA. Anyone is welcome no matter what was used or how big the desire to stop using is. Meetings are held Sunday and Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Fulton County Medical Center Pearl Room and Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, Mc- Connellsburg. Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Pickup is at Center United Methodist Church community building on Doran Road, Waterfall. More information may be obtained by calling 814-685-3780. Calls will be kept strictly confidential.

Food Auction Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a food auction Friday, January 15, at 5 p.m. Kitchen opens at 4 p.m. Watch for more details at a later date.

Pancake/Sausage Breakfast A pancake and sausage breakfast will be held Saturday, January 16, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 7404 Lincoln Highway, Harrisonville, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Served will be sausage, regular, buckwheat and blueberry pancakes, puddin meat, homemade apple butter, coffee, tea and juice. Donations are appreciated.

Potpie Dinner Needmore Bible Church will hold a potpie dinner Saturday, January 23, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Served will be ham, beef and chicken potpie, coleslaw, dessert and drinks. Proceeds benefit the Brazil Mission team.

Potpie Supper A beef, ham and chicken potpie supper will be held Saturday, January 16, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Fort Loudon Community Center, Hawbaker Drive and Mullen Street, Fort Loudon. Meal is served buffet style and all-youcare to-eat. Menu includes pepper slaw, applesauce, pickles, bread, cake, punch and coffee. Eat at the center or carryouts are available. Adult meals are $8.50, children ages 7-12 are $5.50 and under age 7 eat free. Sponsored by Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon.

Free Lunch The first Friday of every month a free and nutritious lunch is served in the Faith & Life Center at Mc- Connellsburg United Methodist Church on the courthouse square from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.


Bikers, Hikers, Horse Riders Meeting The Friends of Buchanan State Forest/Sideling Hill and Martin Hill Tracts will hold a meeting Tuesday, February 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the DCNR maintenance building, 3017 Lincoln Highway, Harrisonville, five miles east of Breezewood on top of mountain. Discussed will be ideas for the trails on Sideling Hill and Martin Hill. Note: A one-day training for trail maintenance will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Hoss’s in Bedford. Historical Society Meeting Fulton County Historical Society (FCHS)will hold its winter membership meeting Saturday, January 23, at 7 p.m., at the Fulton County Courthouse. James M. Hoey, Fort Ashby, W.Va., will provide a presentation on the surveying of the Mason and Dixon Line. In 1763, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon were retained to finally settle the 80-year old dispute between Maryland and Pennsylvania. It took five years and was the largest public works accomplishment of its day. The engineering and scientific challenges they faced were unprecedented. The FCHS will also draw for the winners of the raffle ticket prizes. This event is free and open to the public.

Quilt Club Meeting Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, January 16, at 10 a.m., in the community room of Fulton County Library, North First Street, McConnellsburg. Committees will be selected at this meeting and programs will be planned. Anyone interested in quilting is invited to attend.

Sportsmen’s Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery January 15. New officers and board members were elected during the December meeting. Members attending the meeting are asked to bring in a small item to be traded or raffled off at the conclusion of the meeting.


Gabriel Project Fulton County Catholic Mission will sponsor the Gabriel Project, a program to help pregnant women of any age with practical needs for their newborn baby up to 2 years old. More information at 485-5917.

Senior Center Hours Hustontown Senior Center will now be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with lunch being served at noon. Day-before reservations are needed for lunch. All area seniors are welcome and urged to support their center.

Thrift Store Clearance Sale Better Days Animal League Thrift Store, Fort Loudon, across from Milky Way Restaurant, will hold a clearance sale the entire month of January.
