Forbes Road opened up its season Friday night with a slow start against Chestnut Ridge. Dropping the league match 79-47, the Cardinals were led by Owen Gilbert with 13 points. Brycen Hohman added 11 points, and Michael Fleck was the next highest scorer with seven points.

Girls Basketball

McConnellsburg 62
Mount Union 34

McConnellsburg had little trouble defeating Mount Union Friday night in the Lady Spartans’ season opener, which ended in a 62-43 victory.

Bronwyne Mellott scored more points than Mount Union’s entire team combined and finished out the non-league matchup with 36 points. Teammates Kylie Keefer and Justice Seville added 11 points each. Bridgette Ritchey added six steals and eight rebounds.

Southern Fulton 48

Berlin 36

Olivia Mottern had a big night for the Southern Fulton Lady Indians, who used a strong fourth quarter to defeat Berlin Saturday by the final score of 48-36.

Mottern finished out the non- league win with 24 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Celina Merchant tacked on 12 rebounds, six points and five assists. Lakyn Morton and Drew Hann had eight and seven points, respectively.
