Richard P. Barton

McConnellsburg, 94

Richard P. “Dick” Barton, 94, McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.

He was born May 16, 1921, in Hustontown, the son of the late Harper P. and the late Lillian S. (Madden) Barton. He married Grace Stevens on July 31, 1946 in Hustontown.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a mechanic in the Army Air Corp, keeping the planes and bombers in the air for the Allied Forces Movement while stationed in Valley, Wales. Upon returning home from the war, he completed his degree at Penn State University in business.

He spent the majority of his working life at The Fulton County National Bank in McConnellsburg, ending his career as the CEO of the bank. He enjoyed spending his free time playing the guitar, working as a stone mason and flying his plane. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters.

He is survived by one daughter, Cindy (wife of Greg) Peck, McConnellsburg, and one son, Rodney K. (husband of Sandy) Barton, Burnt Cabins,; three granddaughters: Tamara McCloskey, McConnellsburg; Tyla (wife of Buddy) Swope, McConnellsburg, and Jesse Barton, New York City, N.Y.; two great-grandsons: Ian and Trey; two sisters: Dorothy Truhn of Florida and Joyce Washabaugh of McConnellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Harper, and one sister, Jean Barton.

An afternoon of visitation was held Monday, December 7, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, with interment at Union Cemetery.
