Personnel Items Top Forbes Road Agenda

The Forbes Road School Board of Directors met last Monday evening and dealt mostly with a number of personnel matters. It was noted that the board held a five-minute executive session prior to the February 24 meeting for personnel reasons and also held a five-minute executive session for the same reason prior to last Monday evening’s meeting. Also at the conclusion of Monday evening’s meeting, the board held a 70- minute executive session for personnel and negotiations.

The board set the yearbook advisor and drama advisor salaries at $2,600 (Year 1) for the 2014-2015 school year. All were in favor except for one abstention.

Lisa Black was named drama assistant at $950 for the 2014-2015 school year. Motion carried by roll-call vote, with all members present in favor of the motion with the exception of one “no” vote.

Tiffany Mistretta was hired as chemistry teacher at $32,500 (prorated) contingent upon obtaining emergency certification for so long as she maintains valid and appropriate certification. The vote for hire was unanimous.

The board accepted the resignation from Brown Cutchall as assistant boys junior high basketball coach effective immediately; accepted the resignation from Tina Everhart as junior high girls basketball assistant coach and she will be allowed to be an unpaid assistant for the junior high girls basketball team; and accepted the resignation from Peter Hall as junior high boys basketball coach and will allow him to be an unpaid assistant coach.

During other business, the following agenda items were approved: change the school calendartomakeApril1afullday, April 2 full day and use April 6 as a makeup day; a request for a band field trip to the Altoona Area High School for regional band February 11-13 at a cost to the board of $616.60 for two substitutes, registration fee and lodging; a request from the class of 2015 to take their senior class trip to Manhattan, Times Square, New York, on March 15-17 as presented; a request from Jamie Hoffman for use of the new gym and cafeteria lunchroom to hold the Robin Feight Memorial Elementary Boys Basketball Tournament March 14, 20 and 21; and a request from the Forbes Road Lions Club for use of the gym on April 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for their annual Easter egg hunt.

During the public comment section of the meeting, Shelby Suders addressed the school board, asking for consideration to have school policy changed regarding student dress code.

During other business, the list of 2014 per-capita and occupation tax exonerations was approved as presented.

The land lease bid from Thomas Ritchey was unanimously accepted as presented.

Members of the school board present for Monday evening’s meeting were Merrill Arnold, Teressa Bard, Byron Helsel, Karen Peffer, Chanin Rotz-Mountz and Kirby Shoemaker. Absent were Margaret Bolinger, Rheon Gelvin and Stacie Keller. Others in attendance were Superintendent Mark Loucks, solicitor Patrick Fanelli, K4-12 Principal Maria Scott, John Mixell, G. Mellott, B. Strait, D.&S. Suders, A. Ramsey and L. Hall.

The Forbes Road School Board of Directors next board meeting will be held Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m.
